THE
SOLUTION TO CORRODED WALL TIE PROBLEMS
|
|||||||
| THE PROBLEM | |||||||
| To combat
wall damage due to wall tie corrosion, the simple addition of new remedial
ties to sta bilise the outer leaf is insufficient, Where solid fishtail
ties exist, continued corrosion will result in further disruption of the
wall. Removal, bending or cropping off the existing ties was recommended by the BRE in Digest 329, to end the disruptive activity and subsequent damage to the wall. However; these methods Carl still result in damage to, and weakening of, the wall. |

| THE SOLUTION | |||||||
| Isolation
of the existing wall tie was endorsed in BRE Digest 329.This treatment consisted
of iso lation of the wall tie from the outer leaf of brickwork using a simple
and inexpensive PVC sleeve containing a rust inhibitorthe REDIFIXTIE SLEEVE.The
flexible material of theTlE SLEEVE allows easy location around the corroding
tie and final application by hand pressure. TIE SLEEVES can be installed over a wide area and inspection carried out prior to repointing the open joints.The supervising officer can approve the installation of the sleeves as the work proceeds. |
